I had planned when original designing the doll house to be finished with it within a 6 month period. It isn't going the way I wanted it to. Depending on weather it seems that when I get started the real world intrudes on the project. Then again there are times I am lazy and don't want to enjoy the Florida sunshine and the heat to create this masterpiece in plywood and basswood. The interesting thing is I don't have a garage. which would make this go a lot faster I think. So the thing on my agenda is some type of shed that can be put in the backyard so I can build and create without getting saw dust all over the living room. I have been pricing them for the last few days and discovered that the size I want and my pocket book do not coincide with each other. But I could afford a vacuum cleaner which is going to help a great deal so picked up one of those so working while it's raining and summer is rainy season here I will be able to work faster and get the job done I hope in the next 2-3 months. I still want that backyard work area but it's going to have to wait a little longer for that dream to be realized.
My journey into the creation of a scratch made dollhouse and furnishing it using items I build myself. Oh Boy!

Life Can Be Annoying
I haven't worked on the house in awhile due to some interesting health issues. I have discovered that exercise can be bad for your health. So now that I can move around again and there isn't serious pain when using my hands I am starting on the house that will be done:) While reading around the books that people have published concerning the construction of doll houses I have learned that most have some type of base to them. No not the floor but a base that you put landscaping around to make it look like a real house. So who am I to argue about the correct thing to do to make it look realistic? That lead to a trip to Home Depot. While there I picked up some hinges that were small enough to use in the doll house for doors and the opening front of the doll house, although I have been rethinking about that. I think if I do this again and I probably will the second one will have an open back I think it's an easier build.
As stated went to the Depot for the 3/8 plywood, brought a full 4 x 8 piece and they were nice enough to cut it for me no extra charge. However the individual that was cutting was the softest spoken individual I have ever encountered in my life when he choose to talk. Nice man but thought he had marbles in his mouth. After the third time of asking him the same question I just gave up. So now the house has a swivel base under it and it's a lot easier to move around. It's 42" x 16" and the plywood is cut in such a way that gives it a front yard a back yard and a patio where the sun room is I thought about adding a 2 car garage and then sanity kicked in. I think the most annoying thing is that I can't find either model cars or play cars in the right scale to put in the driveway if I had one.
The plywood has been painted a kind of sage green to cover any spots that don't have the painted coffee grounds on it and I am using shaved and glued Styrofoam for the any bushes around the house. I priced the greenery in catalogs and online shops and although I don't mind spending a great deal of the money I don't have for the wood and fabric for the house props are not on the agenda at this time so I am making my own grass, hedges, flowers and vines from the materials I have around the house. My best friend says I should have just brought a kit for the house. But the kit I wanted was 1200 and I just couldn't see spending that much for a paste board house when I could have a solid one for a lot less money. I've been keeping tabs on the expenditures for this operation and believe it or not with purchasing the materials from Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Joann's, and A. C. Moore I have spent less then $200 which includes the 8 books I purchased to get me started on building this bad boy. So I am in pretty good shape money wise. I do have to thank 1" mini's for the furniture Kris over there is an inspiration and a God send to those of us that don't have a clue and the uses of mat board. and foamcore. It has been an experience learning to make bed, kitchen cabinets mattress, chairs, and tables from Mat board and other items that are not wood. She likes the '50's stuff and a lot of it can be modernized to look really nice. So I visit her once a month and see what she has in store for me to attempt to tackle and since the only thing I am truly good at is sewing, quilting and jewelry making it is definitely a challenge.
Well that's it for the time being I am up and moving so definitely going to be hitting this and the house more often then I have. It's coming along and as soon as I can figure out how to post pictures from the phone camera I have I will put some up.
